hello
Vintage/Antique Tops
I am so excited at being able to purchase some of these wonderful tops. It is going to be an adventure quilting them.
Also, they have an individual life all of their own and there are many things to see:
- I love the way the fabrics have been cut, in many cases with complete disregard to either the pattern or the grain.
- the piecing. Is it hand done, machine done or both?
- the fabrics are very rarely the same over the whole quilt. More often than not it is only what is on hand which is used – but are there design decisions for fabric placement (sometimes these are quite hidden)?
- what is happening in the main pattern shapes? There can often be interesting things going on. Many times even the smallest shape has lots of piecing happening to try and bring it up to size.
- the colour combinations are often so intriguing and like nothing ever seen before!
- the fabrics can often tell one a lot about the age of the top.
Hello world!
Here I am starting a blog – hopefully with all sorts of information in it that is readily accessible.
I will share some of my thoughts on quilting, designing, piecing, beadwork and other things as they come to mind.
